Snowdrops 2-3 years, Ratio 1 adult : 5 children
On the ground floor of the nursery, our 2 year old room is bright, spacious and adaptable offering lots of learning zones for children to join practitioners and their friends in play.
Our staff team have a wealth of knowledge working with 2 year old's, and attend regular training to keep their skills up to date. With regular forums and communication training plus the support of our environment, children develop at their own pace with the support of their "tuned-in" key person.
During this period all children have their 2-year-old check to check they are meeting a good stage of development. The 2-year-check focusses on the 3 prime areas of learning:
- Personal, social and emotional.
- Physical development.
- Communication and language.
We will share findings with family and ask for your input and may share with you child's health visitor to ensure we can support your child to reach their full potential.
Interactions with our two year olds are personalised to individuals stage of development. Children are encouraged to make choices and share their thoughts in their play either using gestures or words. The routine has been designed with the needs of 2 year development in mind and is available in picture form to help the children understand their day. We are aware for the need of physical activity for all our children therefore lots of opportunities are available for 'BIG' play are available daily, both indoors and out. Daily singing and story times are enjoyed, as well as check-in time, with their key carer during snack.
"Our promises" is our reward system and is a useful tool in the snowdrop room. We discuss and share thoughts about our feelings and the feelings of others and we ask the children to be a "kind friend", do "good tidying" and "good listening". The children are rewarded by a photo of them being displayed on the "our promise" wall. We use this throughout the day to remind them when they were kind and share this with their family at collection time.
