Snapdragons 3+4 years, Ratio 1 adult : 8 children

Following extensive transition visits to this exciting environment on the first floor, children and their families are supported with the move. As before the children pick their key carer following a short period of settling in where the children form relationships, with the highly experienced and qualified room team.

We understand that children develop in their own unique way, so our aim is to ensure every child is challenged and achieves their own, individual potential. Our team focusses on providing a fun and warm environment where friendships are formed and relationships nurtured and celebrated. Key people plan achievable next steps for children in collaboration with family.

As with the other rooms we continue to build strong foundations and celebrate strong moral values and good manners. We want to prepare children for life, not just their next steps. Children learn to care for themselves and each other, helping each other out with simple tasks. Children's "voices" are respected through regular chances to makes choices about their learning and care and voting on preferences either using their voice or supporting visuals.

Our daily routine is designed with fun at the forefront but early literacy and mathematical concepts are weaved throughout everyday activities such as cutting fruit for snack or describing constructions the children have made.

When the time comes for children to move to "big school", we share information with families, the welcoming schools and provide ample activities for the children to help them prepare. For example, dressing up in uniforms or school teachers visiting with photos and videos of their new classroom. We also attend the Sefton annual transition event where information about individual preferences and needs can be discussed. If a child needs extra support to transition to school, we will make every effort enhance our arrangements. This might be visits to the school with their key carer and extra resources to support during their play.
